Marrakech Chagaga Desert Tour Through Southern Morocco

Day 1 – Arrival and Discover Marrakech

Your Marrakech Chagaga desert tour begins when you arrive in Marrakech. We welcome you at the airport or your accommodation and transfer you to a traditional riad.

After settling in, you have free time to discover the vibrant Medina. You can walk through the colorful souks and experience the lively atmosphere of the old city. Moreover, you can join an optional guided walking tour to discover historic sites, traditional markets, and hidden streets.

As evening arrives, enjoy a delicious Moroccan dinner with local specialties. This first day provides a relaxing introduction to Morocco. You can rest and prepare for the desert adventure ahead.

Day 2 – Marrakech to Ouarzazate via Ait Ben Haddou

After breakfast, we leave Marrakech and travel towards the High Atlas Mountains. First, we cross the spectacular Tizi n’Tichka Pass. Along the way, we stop at scenic viewpoints to admire the valleys, mountains, and traditional Berber villages.

Next, we continue towards Ait Ben Haddou. Here, you visit the famous fortified ksar, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You can walk through its narrow streets and discover its traditional earthen architecture. In addition, Ait Ben Haddou is famous for its role in international cinema.

After the visit, we continue towards Ouarzazate. Known as the gateway to the Sahara, the city has a strong connection with Moroccan history and filmmaking. Finally, we check into our hotel or guesthouse and enjoy a relaxing evening.

Day 3 – Ouarzazate to Erg Chagaga via the Draa Valley

After breakfast, your Marrakech Chagaga desert tour continues towards the Draa Valley. The valley is famous for its extensive palm groves, traditional kasbahs, and small villages.

As we travel south, we pass through rural communities and enjoy beautiful views of the oasis. Then, we continue towards M’Hamid, the last major settlement before the Sahara.

From M’Hamid, the adventure becomes more remote. We travel off-road towards the magnificent Erg Chagaga dunes. The landscape changes dramatically as we enter the deep Sahara.

Later, you enjoy a camel ride across the golden dunes. The sunset creates beautiful colours across the desert. Afterwards, we continue to the desert camp.

In the evening, you enjoy a traditional Moroccan dinner. Local music and storytelling create a warm atmosphere around the campfire. Finally, you spend the night under a spectacular sky filled with stars.

Day 4 – Erg Chagaga to Taroudant via Lake Iriki

Wake up early and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the Sahara. After breakfast, you can walk among the dunes or try sandboarding. Then, we continue our journey across remote desert tracks.

First, we cross the vast landscapes around Lake Iriki. This dry lake area offers a unique and rugged desert environment. Moreover, the remote scenery provides excellent opportunities for photography.

After the off-road journey, we continue towards Taroudant. Often called “Little Marrakech,” Taroudant is surrounded by impressive historic walls and traditional souks.

Upon arrival, you have time to explore the old town and discover its authentic atmosphere. Finally, you relax in a traditional riad and enjoy the evening in this charming southern Moroccan city.

Day 5 – Taroudant to Essaouira via Agadir

After breakfast, we leave Taroudant and travel towards the Atlantic coast. First, we continue towards Agadir, where we stop for a short break and enjoy the coastal atmosphere.

Next, we follow the road north towards Essaouira. The scenery gradually changes as the desert and inland landscapes give way to the Atlantic coastline.

Upon arrival, we explore the historic medina of Essaouira. You can discover its narrow streets, traditional shops, fishing port, and impressive ocean-facing ramparts.

Moreover, Essaouira is famous for its artistic atmosphere and relaxed lifestyle. As the sun sets, the Atlantic light creates a beautiful atmosphere around the old city. Finally, we check into a traditional riad and enjoy a peaceful evening.

Day 6 – Discover Essaouira and the Atlantic Coast

After breakfast, spend a full day discovering Essaouira. You can explore the medina with a local guide or walk through the narrow streets at your own pace.

First, discover the traditional artisan workshops and small galleries. The city is known for its handmade crafts, woodwork, and artistic culture.

Next, visit the fishing port and enjoy a fresh seafood lunch. You can watch the local fishermen and experience the lively atmosphere of the harbor.

In addition, several optional activities are available. You can try surfing, enjoy a camel ride along the beach, or simply relax beside the Atlantic Ocean.

Finally, return to your riad and enjoy your last evening in Essaouira before returning to Marrakech.

Day 7 – Essaouira to Marrakech

The final day of your Marrakech Chagaga desert tour begins with a relaxed morning in Essaouira. After breakfast, you can take a final walk along the beach or visit the medina for some last-minute shopping.

Then, we leave Essaouira and begin the journey back to Marrakech. Along the way, you can enjoy the changing landscapes and countryside.
